Founded in Turin in 1899 as Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino, FIAT is Italy's largest carmaker and one of the defining names in small-car design. The original Nuova 500 of 1957 put post-war Italy on wheels, and the modern 500 revived that character for a new generation. FIAT built its reputation on compact, economical cars with more personality than their size suggests, from the Panda to the 124 Spider. The brand is now part of Stellantis, one of the world's largest automotive groups.
