VOLVO
A Swedish automaker founded in 1927, Volvo is known worldwide for pioneering vehicle safety, understated design, and durable wagons.
Founded in Gothenburg in 1927, Volvo built its reputation on safety and durability at a time when neither was a selling point. Its engineer Nils Bohlin invented the three-point seatbelt in 1959, and Volvo released the patent for free so that every manufacturer could use it — a decision credited with saving more than a million lives. The boxy 240 became a symbol of Swedish practicality, and the XC90 carried the safety-first philosophy into the modern SUV era. Volvo has been owned by Geely since 2010.
