PONTIAC
A General Motors performance division from 1926 to 2010, Pontiac built some of America's best-known muscle cars, including the GTO and the Firebird.
Founded in 1926 and part of General Motors, Pontiac spent most of its life as the division that made GM exciting. The 1964 GTO is widely credited with launching the muscle car era by dropping a big V8 into a mid-size body, and the Firebird and Trans Am carried that spirit for decades. Pontiac's performance identity outlasted the brand itself, which GM discontinued in 2010 during its restructuring.
